Titties/movies/books/trips
Just back from a lunch of shrimp with garlic sauce. Imagined a convention of chinese restaurant matrons would be very entertaining. The problem is they would never take any time off from work to go to a convention. If they did I imagine them scurrying everywhere and yelling in chinese.
Last Saturday I had a belated bachelor party. We drank beer, played poker and went to the strip club. And ate turkey brats and some wings the mom-in-law sent over. Had a good time, smoked a pack or so of cigarettes and felt like shit the next day. (subsequently day was spent on couch with the three for five dollar domino pizzas and 2 liter of coke) Overall, a good day. It was probably the only time I can remember really having fun at a strip club. We blew a lot of money, which is always an indication of good times, and the guys got me a bachelor dance which was me sitting in a chair on the stage against the pole while 2 chicks gave me business. They tore my underwear and wrapped it around my head, stole my belt and spanked me with it, took off my shirt and wrote on my chest and, of course, dry humped me and rubbed titties in my face. The guys tried to camera phone capture the event, but the phones were confiscated and the pictures erased. C'est la vie!
For those indignant feminist types, K had a bachelorette party as well, and more or less goaded me into going to strip club. Her stripper was named Valentino and he entered the party dressed as a cop, or so I hear.
As for regular life:
Went to see Fiery Furnaces show tuesday. It was good times, but they play only about 45 minutes. Be forewarned as well that they actually rock live. I thought the show would be interesting because the cd's are so quirky, but they opt for bringing the rock instead. Well, they put on a good show anyway, basically playing non stop and sequing into songs for 30 minutes, then the bro and sis do a couple songs by themselves and they encore with some catchy stuff from EP.
We both (me and the wife) got shirts!!! Of course most of the crowd were younger college types with nod and a wink too tight t shirts and no-product floppy hair who were not so ironically quaffing cans of pbr and stag.
All in all the show was ten dollars so it was pretty good. I don't enjoy the downtime of a club show, like taking down the opening bands crap and putting up the headliner's crap. Unless you're one of the aforementioned audience members who are also interacting socially it's just you and the wife having a drink in uncomfortable chairs in a stinky ol' club.
But, hey, we got out of the house!! Old married man only three weeks in.
We've been in the house as well lately. The netflix agreement (pre nup of course) is every other movie. So, we've seen Bridget Jones edge of reason, M, Oceans twelve.
I'll leave it to the curiously obsessed to decide who's picking what, but suffice to say, it was good to see M again. BJones was disappointing, esp since I found the first one charming, whereas this one is just preposterous, and Oceans Twelve was just sort of boring until it pissed me off by having (spoiler alert) the julia roberts character pose as julia roberts to steal the faberge egg and, in perfect farce fashion (in a heist picture no less) run into Bruce Willis playing Bruce Willis!!
We've got Audition and Finding Neverland to watch this weekend, with House of Flying Daggers and Meet the Fockers in line.
Egads!!
Finished, finally, the Spike and Dru buffy novel, which was somewhat disappointing.
Also finished Speaker for the Dead which was very very good.
Reading Farenheit 451 which I am enjoying. Thinking of getting the Trouffaut (sp) film again.
Almost finished -- one last story and then the extra crap-- with the first Conan collection. They really are best savored at, say, one a week.
Any recommendations for Italy reads? I know it's only two weeks, but I'll have to take at least four books that I'll never finish for the trip. I was thinking that I had to take Dante, but then I know I won't read that. Especially on the 8 hour flight. I was thinking of maybe taking Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy or Kurt Vonnegut -- you know, easy plane reads with minimal plot to follow, and then maybe some sort of Italian thing in case the scenery inspires me. Who knows. I keep mulling this over. I was thinking of going lo-tech for the trip, which means leaving the laptop at home. Not a bad idea since we'd have to spring for a battery anyway and since we'll be in the middle of nowhere most of the time without (I'm sure) hispeedwireless. We'll take the gameboy and the digi cam for sure though.
