New Year Resolutions

Hey look!!! It's a new year. I suppose everyone's aware of that, but that bloggin ain't been comin' out my noggin so here's some missives.

This is the year I'm getting married, or that we're getting married, and we've made some Resolutions.

Yes, you heard right. We're gettin' our asses on a budget and saving money.

Those are the primaries. We're also doing a diet thing which is connected the budget, which means we're planning out the handful of meals for the week instead of eating by whimsy. And no Sunday pizza pigouts!!

It's been kind of weird mostly since I haven't been able to buy things I don't really need on a regular basis. I'm going to miss that. Then again, it's fun to have some money in the savings pot and be current with the bills.

I know these are all relatively simple things, but somehow they've always eluded me. But now we're on our way to a frugal life together!!

We finally set the date for our wedding party. (Interested parties will get their invites sometime soonish) Oh, and one of out cars broke so we ended up buying two new used cars. Good thing we're on this new budget.

We've managed to get some fun stuff over the holiday season and even in the new year with our budget. The most exciting of these are:
digi camera -- ostensibly for out honeymoon. One of those HP photo printers with the little preview screen. And we snagged the future father in law's old Sony laptop which is actually as powerful as this desktop of mine which is begging to be replaced. We got the linksys and now we have wireless goodness. Today we get the new cable box with dvr. Oh, and I got a new picture phone that takes photos that look like smeared watercolors, or sometimes like old polaroids that were left in the sun for a few years. It was free.

Movin' up in the world!! Honestly though, the wireless laptop rules. I can surf the web on the goddamn couch!! Which I did last night as K watched King Arthur. I made a mistake at the movie rental palace and got a full screen version which I, of course, refused to watch. I try not to be a jerk about things but full screen really bugs me, especially in a movie with a lot of battles on open fields. The constant panning and cutting just doesn't make any sense. bitch bitch bitch bitch....

On a brighter note, we watched Shaun of the Dead which I quite enjoyed. And, yes, it was WS. I swear I checked all the boxes. And Employee of the Month, which bugged me but I won't get into it here.

Good things: watched Firefly sereis finally and loved it. Joss Whedon really is a great tv writer. We also finally finished Buffy, getting and watching the 7th season. Once again with the Whedon. And, we're working our way through season two of Angel.

I've been reading Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books which are good stuff, my friends. And still working my way through the Conan stories. Got the second book in the Conan series when K got her books for school. It has the only Conan novel in it. Whew!! More on all this later.

Krautrock.
Listening to Kraftwerk a lot lately, and Can. Also some David Bowie and Eno and a little bit of the Fiery Furnaces. Also listened to Silver Apples. Very disappointed that Rhapsody does not have Neu or more Faust records. Or King Crimson
